Breaking Dawn

October 29, 2012

I figured with Halloween right around the corner, I should read a horror story and boy did I pick one! I kid, kind of. I finished reading the Twilight Saga with Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I also figured it would be a good time to read it with the movie coming out in a few weeks. (Don't judge! It's become like a tradition to see these films in theater.)

I don't know where to begin with this book.
1. Selfishness
2. Manipulation
3. Lying
4. Scheming
5. Half vampire birth scene
6. A huge bomb of an ending

I could go on. This book was a huge disappointment when I first read it years ago and it has stayed a disappointment. There are huge build ups for several things in this book, but nothing happens! Stephenie Meyer has too much of a connection to her characters. They don't really suffer. I was hoping for a huge knock down drag out, I was ready to cry, fight scene where characters would die, but no! Nothing. I was mad. I'm actually kind of hoping that movie strays drastically and the commercials prove true to there being a fight scene. If that is the case, the movie will have been better then the book.

All the points I've pointed out above are basically the same issues I had with the first three books.Vampires are supposed to older and smart, these do not. They are just immature and selfish. It's the same rant, so I will keep this short. Love is not selfish or manipulative, but yet, that is what the book pushes. It's annoying.

Bella is the worst role model out there and I pray that girls out there don't dream of being Bella. She is an idiot. She is selfish and only dreams of codependency. Not to read!

Spetember Review

October 17, 2012

Well.....crap!

I just realized (yes, I know) half way though October, I never did a September review. I suck. So much stuff has been going on, it slipped my ever flooded mind. So, with out further adieu, my review. (No, I didn't plan on that to rhyme).

The Last Sacrifice by Hank Hanegraaff and Sigmund Brouwer is a to read! This is the second book in The Last Dsciple series. It's an interesting idea on the book of Revelation. It's one of the better series I've read in a while.
The Last Temple is the conclusion to The Last Dsciple Series by Hank Hanegraaff and Sigmund Brouwer. The ending did not disappoint. It answered some questions I had from the second one. This is not a predictable story. It's a to read!
Oy, I knew my good fortune in books must come to an end, but it sucks when it happens. Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. I don't have enough space to go into everything I didn't like...that is what the blog post was for. Not to read! The five minute clip on the Tony's was nothing like the book. The play seemed better in just those five minutes.
I needed something good to read to cleanse my pallet after the nightmare of the previous book, so I read one of my favorites, The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. To read!
Oh, boy. Don't flog me people. I was sick and needed a mindless read. It didn't turn out to be mindless, I nitpicked every red flag in this book. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer should actually be titled, If You Meet A Guy Like This, Run! Not to read!
I couldn't stop myself, I kept reading the series/saga...whatever and dove into New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. Or as I want to call it, Wake Up! You Don't Need A Guy to Survive You Twit! Not to read!

So goes my monthly review. :-) These books bring my total for the year up to 40! I'm now 10 away from my goal of 50. I know I can reach it, and more then likely surpass it. 10 books divided by the 3 months we have left in the year (crazy how quickly this year has flown!).

The Mark of Athena

I finally was able to read The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I can't say how excited I was about reading this book. I've been waiting a year for its release. That's one of the downfalls of reading a new series/ new books. The wait. However, it was worth it. The Son of Neptune left me wanting more. I couldn't put my finger on it until I read this book, book 3 in The Heroes of Olympus. The connection of friends. It just wasn't happening in The Son of Neptune. And it left me a little sad. The Mark of Athena made up for it.

In The Mark of Athena, Percy and Annabeth are back together (yay!!) and we have new friends together as well from the previous two books. Percy and Annabeth, bring these characters together. Which, I know is the point. Anyway, all together again, however it isn't glad tidings. Right off the bat, Greek and Roman forces are against our band of heroes and it's off to save the world, while they have incoming attacks by everyone and their mother, or so it seems.

I applaud Rick Riordan for this series. He knows his mythology. The Greek and Roman myths are intertwined like their histories, but he is able to keep it in order, easy to understand, and fun to read about! He throws back references to his first series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is nice to see how he intertwines the past and the present.

It is a lot of fun to see how Rick Riordan can place all these ancient myths into the modern day story and make it seem real, plus he doesn't dumb down the stories. The Heroes of Olympus is a smart read for kids, teenagers, and adults a like. It's a to read! I can't wait for the fourth book (sadly, not out till next year) to find out what happens with the cliffhanger. I won't spoil anything for the people who haven't read it yet.

Eclipse

October 8, 2012

I finished Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer several days ago, but I needed a break from this book and series, so I just moved on to a new book.

Manipulation, lying, over protectiveness, control, and anger issues are just some of the red flags that are waving fully in the wind in this book. I really have to ask, what the heck was Stephenie Meyer thinking when she wrote this book?! Bella is 18, can't stand the thought of life with out Edward. She has to be in constant contact with him at all times and thinks the days are horribly long when he isn't there. She has horrible co-dependency problems. Jacob in the book calls him a drug to her, so basically she has an addiction problem, and usually those can kill people, and it almost has in every book. There is nothing healthy about the relationship Bella is in. Not to add to the fact the Edward all but says that Bella is forbidden to see her friend Jacob.

Jacob, isn't any better. He likes the idea of game playing and manipulating the situations to where he looks great. If he doesn't get his way, he either gets very mad or sad and pouty (yeah, I know it's not a real word). He even tells Bella, he is playing a game, it's just Edward plays it better since he is so much older. You would think, that some one who is over a 100 years old would know by now, that games don't help a situation, they hurt, but yet, there really is no brains amongst this group.

In the end, Bella has to come to a conclusion, to pick Edward, even though there is no option in her mind, or Jacob, who is just a friend, but hey he cares for her, so he can make her care for him by forcing him on her and kissing her several time. So while in a "committed" with Edward, she kisses Jacob in a ploy he came up with, while Edward knows, plays his game and wins Bella for himself. This is not a healthy story for girls to read, then think it's ok to be treated this way! Girls are worth far more then Bella Swan shows. Girls are not here to just be with a boy for the rest of her life...and that brings me to my second rant.

Bella wants to be with Edward forever, but doesn't want to marry him. She wants to live forever with Edward as a vampire, but yet can't stand the thought of marriage, because, of my gosh what would her friends think? She calls her mom immature and thinks about how she is the only adult having to take care of her dad. She is all over the place, young, and has no idea what life is about, but thinks she is smart and mature. This will lead other girls to think that they can think the same thing or that can relate and act the same way.

Bella spends a lot of the book lying to her mom and dad, thinking that she is ok for doing this since she is protecting them. Her parents just look the other way and they let Bella get away with a lot of crap.It infuriates me.

All and all, this book pissed me off. There is nothing positive in the story.. Not to read!
