The Bad of 2012
December 31, 2012
Alrighty, here are the books that I just didn't like for some form or fashion. They aren't in any particular order.
Dystopian:
Article 5 by Kristen Simmons...There is such a liberal push to this book, it made me want to bang my head. The story was predictable and hard to keep me interested.
Legend by Marie Lu... It was not legendary. It followed the cookie cutter form of a YA novel. I was bored with it.
Rebel Heart by Moria Young...Our strong heroine from the first book is such a door mat in this book. I was unsure of the first book, the second book I didn't enjoy.
Fiction:
Cowboy Christmas by Mary Connely... It started off good, but then it just started to trip over it's self and it became a chore to finish it.
Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Berry & Ridley Pearson... I thought it would be funny like the snippet of the play, it was nothing like it and not child appropriate.
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.... Took the story of Dinah from the Bible and twisted it into a giant mess.
Biography:
The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure... This is a book following a woman's slow spiral of fandom into an obsession. It was a bit disturbing in places.
Paranormal:
The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer
Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn... I've seen all the movies and have read the books several times, however, the writing is horrible, the story is bad. Codependency and stalking are not healthy, neither is control and manipulation and anger in a relationship.
Eon by Alison Goodman... I honestly didn't understand what I reading. Not much happened, it was a bit boring, then a little action at the end.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor... Why is stalking ok these days? There are no healthy relationships in this book.
I think that about does it for my 2012 book review. I hope it's been helpful to someone out there. Happy New Year everyone!!
There were a few books this year that I 100% didn't love or hated. So, I didn't feel right in putting them in one category or another. So, here are the undecideds for the year. Maybe you y'all will have a better time with them, or a worse time, who knows!
Crossed by Ally Condie
I loved the first book and I had high hopes for the 2nd. It just didn't meet them. It felt like a bridge book.
Blood Red Road by Moria Young
It was an interesting premise, but the writing style really through me for a loop. It just didn't balance it out for me.
Empress of the Seven Hills by Kate Quinn
I don't know what to think of this book. It wasn't as depressing as the other by this author.
Reached by Ally Condie
Again, I had high hopes for this book because the first was so good. It just left me wanting more, but I couldn't say I didn't like it.
I've gone through the good and the not to bad, but not to good either categories. Up next will be the ones I just didn't like for one reason or another. Stay tuned!
