Synopsis:
I have had the pleasure of getting to review these two similar, but different Bibles. And thankfully, I had my kiddo help me go through both of them.
Since there are two, I was going to highlight each of them in small sections.
Once Upon a Time Story Book Bible is a beautifully illustrated book. The colors are vivid and the pictures are inviting and make the stories pop with the detail. The story highlighted throughout are very good and ones that everyone will know, so they are good stories to jump off with for younger kids. The stories are good for further conversations of the stories and also offer a nice visual for younger children. The kiddo and I are both visual, so the pictures were nice to look at together.
Once Upon a Time Holy Bible was fantastic Bible. So, much so, that my kiddo has requested to use it for her Bible class in school. The illustration is similar to that in the Story Book Bible and highlights special Biblical stories, but also gives the full text which allows older kids to dive further into studying on their own. The NiRV translation is a very nice and smooth reading for kids and adults.
There is one small downside to these Bibles. I wasn't a fan of the the fact in the Story Book Bible, it started off Once Upon a Time...and ended with, and they lived happily ever after. I wasn't a big fan of that, because, having read the Bible and knowing where we live, it isn't a happily ever after, till heaven. I was glad though, on my copy of the Bibles that is stated on the front, "The Bible is not a fairy tale." I was glad about that. Aside from that, I didn't find anything wrong with these books.

Publication Date: March 7th, 2017
Synopsis:
This book has been fun to review. It is also special, with that fact that I had help with this review. My kiddo was so excited to see this book when it came in. She grabbed it from my hands and spent several days reading and coloring in it. So, she is kindly offering her opinion on this book for me today.
To start off, I will say from my thought of this book, it is perfect for the ages mentioned, 8-12 is a good age for this devotional. The different pictures for each devotional offer enough to color and a time to think of the short passage for the day.
I'm turning over this part of the review now to the kiddo. She is going to give her opinion on the devotional now.
Kiddo:
This devotional helped me learn more about God. I liked how the coloring pages allowed for drawing and coloring. The peacock was my favorite page. The pages were easy to read. I did have to ask a couple of times over a couple of words, but I really enjoyed the coloring. It helped in talking about the Bible in a way I could understand.
I love when I have something for the kiddo to help me to review. I enjoyed this devotional in that it made wanting to learn the scriptures for her more engaging. She is an artistic kid and this really connected with her.

Pages: 192
ISBN: 978-0-310-75096-3
Publication Date: May 3rd, 2016
Synopsis:
The Adventure Bible: Heroes of the Bible Treasury is a very well put together book. I have read a few of the smaller books to my kiddo before, and she really liked them. Now to have an assortment together, that works its way through several of the most well known Bible stories was a nice treat.
The reading level for this book is on a 2, and I will say it spot on. It wasn't so easy, that we flew through it, but it wasn't too hard to where she couldn't understand what was happening. It was a book that was nice size for my kiddo to read to me.
The pictures are bright and drawn in a very eye catching way and helped emphasize and explain perfectly what she was reading. She loved the Noah's Ark story and the fact it had giraffes. That was a win/win for her. The detail was fun and helped keep attention on the stories.
This book was enjoyable and I loved how it help build reading confidence in my kiddo and offered her the ability to read to me.

Review: The Legend of St. Nicholas by Dandi Daley Mackall
October 17, 2014
Title: The Legend of St. Nicholas: A Story of Christmas Giving
Author: Dandi Daley Mackall
Illustrator: Richard Cowdrey
Pages: 32
ISBN: 978-0-310-73115-3
Publication Date: September 23rd, 2014
Synopsis:
Christmas stories are a delight to me....as y'all might know by now. I love stories that weave the traditions of Christmas with their original sources to make things click with kids.
I was familiar with the story of St. Nicholas...yes it was through the shows of Santa Clause is Coming to Town and Veggies Tales St. Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving. What can I say, I love the classics and humor!
The illustrations of The Legend of St. Nicholas were beautiful. The colors were bright and captivating. I loved how it started out the story in the 40's/50's era with a little boy in a store listening to the Santa telling a story. There is just something about that time and Christmas together that just seem perfect. As we travel through the tale, the characters are drawn to fit the era of the story.
The story itself was nice to see. A boy who has grown up seeing people around him needing help, not knowing what to do, then when his friends are in need of help, he wants to with all of his heart. I enjoyed the story, the only small qualm I had with it, was the choppiness of the story in a few parts. It started off talking about Nicholas as one age then the next paragraph he is a new age with something else he is seeing. It confused me for a second in reading, but it smoothed out and had a wonderful lesson in it.
Christmas can be a time where it can be easy to be sucked up into the "I" and "Me" of everything. The rush of the Black Friday sales after Thanksgiving dinner is a prime example. If that is all that spoken of, it's not fun. Christmas is much more then that, and this book is good to point out that fact. Giving is the best gift of all and much more fulfilling then getting what you want.

Review: The First Christmas Ever Illustrated by Dennis Jones

Title: The First Christmas Ever
Illustrated by: Dennis Jones
Publisher: Zonderkidz
Pages: 32

Synopsis:
I love Christmas books...I use the excuse that they are for my kiddo, but in all honesty, I love them for me as well. I'm always on the hunt for new books that tell the Christmas story.
The First Christmas Ever was a wonderful telling of the Christmas story. It was also very Biblically accurate. It drives me nuts when I see the wise men visiting baby Jesus at the stable, that isn't what is mentioned in the Bible, so I was thrilled to see this book portray Jesus at the right age.I know it's easier for kids to see all the things happening together, but I enjoyed how the story flowed and showed Jesus as a toddler when they arrived to his home. I also enjoyed how the story didn't end there but it made sure to let the kids know, that this story is only the beginning. Jesus was here for more and His birth and Christmas mean so much more.
The illustrations for this story were great. It had a bold appearance and the characters really popped and it enhanced the the imagery of the story. The colors were fantastic as well. They were bright and eye catching. My littles loved all the animals featured. She also enjoyed spying the little details that were drawn into the background.
This book would be a wonderful addition to any Christmas collection.
