Synopsis:
Finally Returned Home, Reef McKeena
Finds His Beloved Alaska Facing Its Greatest Threat

Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now, working together as search-and-rescue for Alaska's arduous Iditarod race, a growing attraction seems to be forcing aside old arguments. Then Reef catches Kirra sneaking from camp in the middle of the night.

Kirra's uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing: Frank's daughter has been kidnapped. Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl's life--but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.
Review:
I've been following the McKeena family since the second book of the series came out. My goodness what an adventure this family has been, and with each new adventure, the stories kept getting better. Then to close out this great series, we finally get to know the rebel, the always thought of, but hardly seen brother, Reed. What a way to close everything out!

I have to say, the wait for Reed's story was worth it. At the end of Silenced, Reed shows up, but there is much mystery behind him and his past, we finally have our answers now! Despite everything that has happened, his family has always loved him and haven't stopped praying for him. So, for Reed to be back is an answer to prayer.

We also to really get to know Kirra, a vet and someone who grew up with Reed. She is tough and determined and thrown for a loop, when she finds out her cousin has been kidnapped in the midst of the biggest race that Alaska holds, the Iditarod. It's cold and held in the middle of nowhere...better know as the Alaskan frontier.

Dani's research shines in this story. She is able to capture the spirit of the race and thrill that it brings to the state. Having livid there, I could easily picture everything that she was describing and it fit the memories perfectly. Plus, I've been waiting for when Dani would take us to Fairbanks. It finally happened! It was fun to see the city mentioned, but like with the rest of the series, it wasn't the only stop in this mystery that needs to be solved.

The story kept me guessing wondering what was going on, in a good way. When things were finally revealed, I was impressed at the scope of thought. It was good!

I'm sad to see this series end, but thrilled that it ended on such a fantastic high note!

Review: The Crimson Cord: Rahab's Story by Jill Eileen Smith

February 19, 2015

Title: The Crimson Cord: Rahab's Story
Author: Jill Eileen Smith
Publisher: Revell
Pages: 368
ISBN: 978-0-8007-2034-6
Publication Date: February 17th, 2015

Synopsis:
Wife to a gambler who took one too many risks, Rahab finds herself sold as a slave to cover her husband's debt. Forced into prostitution by Dabir, counselor to the Syrian king, Rahab despairs of ever regaining her freedom and her self-respect. But when Israelite spies enter Jericho and come to lodge at her house, Rahab sees a glimmer of hope and the opportunity of a lifetime. In one risky moment, she takes a leap of faith, puts her trust in a God she does not know, and vows to protect the spies from the authorities. When the armies of Israel arrive weeks later, Rahab hopes they will keep their promise, but she has no idea what kind of challenges await her outside Jericho's walls--or if she will ever know the meaning of love.

Under Jill Eileen Smith's talented hand, the familiar story of Rahab bursts forth in high definition. Readers will find themselves fully immersed in a world of dark and dusty streets, clandestine meetings, and daring escapes as a mysterious biblical figure claims her full humanity--and a permanent place in readers' hearts.
Review:
Rahab is such an interesting person. She showed so much courage in what led up to the fall of Jericho. She stood against her own people and hid the Israelite spies. She was a brave woman who had some amazing faith and she played such an important part in the line of Jesus.

I love reading stories and seeing different interpretations of Rahab, this is the second one I've read in a year, and they have been so different and wonderful, to see the possibilities to why Rahab did what she did and how her faith came to be.

Jill Eileen Smith made Rahab in a real woman who you can feel for. Who you wanted to help. It was easy to hurt for Rahab after witnessing everything she was forced to endure. We are also invited in to watch and see the change that takes place in Rahab's life after Jericho. Unfortunately, pain is a close companion to Rahab, but you see how God is able to use it and transform her.

This was a wonderful story that had me flipping pages to see what would happen next. And I enjoyed how the romance was portrayed in this story. It made me happy to see how it played out the way it did.

If you are a fan of Biblical fiction, this story is right up your ally.
