Kate: What inspired you for Where Wild Roses Bloom?
Angela Couch: Strangely enough, Where Wild Roses Bloom started with a dream I had at a writer’s conference. I was praying about what direction I should take my writing. I believe God was giving me a nudge toward bringing my writing closer to home. With my stories, I’ve dabbled in Colonial America (Backcountry Brides), the American Revolution (Hearts at War series), the Oregon Trail (Heart of a Warrior), the American Civil War (Blacksmith Brides), and even WWII (which I’m not quite done with – watch for A Rose for the Resistance coming April 1st). I had the titles for my first Mountie series by the time I was flying home from the conference and over the next month I continued to hash out several stories set along the Canadian Rockies, and very close to where I live.
Beyond setting and the occupation of the hero (because there aren't nearly enough stories of heroes in red!), the story was also inspired the understanding that we all have things in our past we are ashamed of. And we all have dreams for our futures that may or may not align with what God wants for us. These are some of the struggles both main characters must confront, as they work toward what we hope is a “happy ending”. I hope is we all consider the directions God is trying to lead us in, as His way is where we will find peace and lasting happiness...and maybe even an idea for a good book or two.
Kate: Thank you so much for joining me on the blog today and sharing about your new release and some other titles you have done and are working on! I love how you have incorporated the hope of what consider of a happy ending, but also what God wants from us and how he is always there to try and guide us to the way we need to go.
