Bookish Goals for 2026

I’m not usually someone who sets a lot of goals. I have daily work goals and things I want to accomplish, but yearly goals? Honestly, I don’t do that very often. I learned early on that if I’m not truly committed, it just isn’t going to happen.

But there is one goal I set every single year — my reading goal.

2025 was the first year in a long time that I didn’t just meet that goal… I completely blew it out of the water. I set my goal at 30 books and ended up reading 51. That’s almost a book a week, which is pretty impressive considering there were a couple of months where I only read one book, and others where I devoured eight.

I think the reason I did so well is because my husband and I turned it into a friendly competition. He set his goal at 42 and hit it exactly. The mission was simple: see who could read the most — and, of course, I fully intended to slaughter him (yes, diabolical laughter was absolutely involved). The smack talk was real, and it made the whole year so much more fun.

This year my goal is back to 30 books. I’d love to surpass it again, but we’ll see how things go. I’m hoping to return to school, though there are a few hiccups at the moment, so my time may look a little different. If school doesn’t happen this semester, I may bump that number up.

My only other reading goal? To have fun and read whatever I want. I discovered so many books last year that I never would have picked up before, and I can’t wait to see what finds its way onto my TBR in 2026.

Have you set any reading or bookish goals this year? Let me know in the comments below!
