My Thoughts:
Do you ever just want to escape? This year has been one of those years where the idea of just running away to a new place and leaving everything behind sounds delightful!

Well, I found the most marvelous of escapes. Becky Wade just released a brand new series, and goodness did it provide the most wonderful mental break. I have loved Becky's books since I first discovered them, 8 years ago. So when a new one releases, it brings so much joy.

Stay With Me, I will say, even though touches on some very tough, hard topics, they are ones that are faced daily by so many people. I want to give that warning, because I know that there are some topics that do hit harder to some than others. This might be one of them. This book does discuss drug addiction and the affects it has on the people who battle it and their loved ones. The handling of this topic in Stay With Me is done with so much grace, love, and hope, because there is always hope! Hope and love is what is needed in everyones lives and seeing in demonstrated brings joy.

First off, the setting for Stay With Me. It is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains! How fabulous is that! Reading about Genevieve and Sam in this setting really carried me away. Cool mountain air sweeping through a cabin....so lovely!

Genevieve is such a unique character. She has lived an interesting life, one most people would love to have! She has money, fame, and what looks like a strong faith in the Lord. Like with most things seen through social media, what you see, isn't what you get. She has deep, dark demons she battles. She hides so much from her loved ones and she is lost and alone in all of it. Her past haunts her, she has lived through a huge even as a teenager and it is something we get to flashback on and experience.

Sam....goodness, Sam! He is a character I could keep reading about! He has his own battles he has been waging, but through his battles, he has strengths to help Genevieve in her battle. He is the breath of fresh air her closed up life needs. He helps with his own quiet way.

These two work so well together with their personalities, it a delight to read.
You do feel so much for all of these character. What is written, you can think of someone, yourself or someone close to you who has battled something so difficult and you want to hug these people closer. That is what I love about Becky's writing. It makes you think, it makes you feel. Her stories wrap you up into them and carry you away.

I honestly can't wait to see where this series goes and we learn more about each of these characters we were introduced to.

And on a fun note! The audio for this book was just released last week! I haven't had a chance to listen to it, but I look forward to very soon.

My Thoughts:
Oh my goodness.We have reached the end of this wonderful series! I'm so happy with how this story unfolded and progressed through these books, but I'm also so sad that it has ended! This series has just been one I could let myself sink into and disappear into this time with these people and just get lost for a little while. It was a fabulous journey!

Now I've mourned over the end and gushed over this series, let me tell you why this last book was a cherry on the top this marvelous series!

Connilyn Cossette has a wonderful talent for writing about very strong women characters, but also very strong men characters. Her cast is one of balance and allows their strengths and weakness of each to be shown and highlighted.

In Like Flames in the Night, we follow Tirzah, we have been introduced to her in previous stories. She comes from a very strong and prominent family. She is brought to attention of this story in a very powerful way, with her lack of fear and determination to protect who she is with, but with faith in the protection she knows she is surrounded in. The opening of this book really did set up this story beautifully and it showcased in this book, how God is there to use both men and women to bring in glory and promises.

This story is one that touches on many things. It isn't just about bravery and spies and adventures, it deals with heartache, love, and healing. There are some tough issues Tirzah and Liyam deal with in this story, and the way it unfolded was fantastic and gripping.

Though this is the end of the series, the way that this story wraps up and brings joy to this family, that was originally punished in the first book, is a beautiful conclusion. This book has allowed this story to come full circle and shine a light and it shows, that once was thought as something bad, can in fact lead to an even better path then you could imagine.

I had a hard time putting this book down.  The writing was phenomenal. The setting and the people made you feel apart. This is a series I can go back and re-read over and over again.

I was able to download this story and listen to some of it on Audible....and goodness, the narrator, Rachel Botchen is the voice of this series. The audio of this book is one that can transport you.

This was a fabulous read all around!

My Thoughts:
I look forward to this time of year. Not because of spring, oh no, it's book season! Several of my favorite authors are releasing new books and it is the most wonderful time. One of my all time favorite authors, Jocelyn Green, just released her newest book. And goodness, what a story it was!

I've only read one other historical fiction book on the Great Chicago Fire and it was very interesting. I was excited to see how the story in Veiled in Smoke would play out. I was not disappointed!

Veiled in Smoke was a book that had the Chicago Fire as the main focus of the story, but the characters we follow deal with so much from before the fire all the way through the rebuild. This book was one that yes, focused on a huge tragedy, but it also a book that brought other historical tragedies into the spotlight as well. The Chicago fire took place not long after the Civil War ended. The men that survived are back home with their families, some fully, some only in body. Their minds were elsewhere.

Meg and Sylvie are two grown sisters doing their best to get by running a bookstore and painting. They lost their mom a few years back, and their dad who served in the war is home, but has been injured mentally.

Having been dealt a hard blow to the family, Meg and Sylvie are close, but they are complete opposites in every fashion. They each view things differently and when that happens, like it does in many families, it can cause tension, when thrown into a huge stressful situation on top of it, family ties are tested. Jocelyn Green was able to write and portray this struggle so well. It is something so many people have gone through, in some form or fashion, and you can see both sides of it when reading this book.

Stephen, Meg and Sylvie's father has lived a hard life during the war. During this time, PTSD wasn't known about, wasn't studied, other then they didn't come back fully from the war and suffered a soldier's heart. Reading about Stephen and the struggles he faced and the internal battles he fights is heartbreaking. This is a struggle that many battle now and Jocelyn Green was able to spotlight the importance of care for someone who has been mentally hurt. You hurt for Stephen and the circumstance he is thrown into and for his family who are battling it in their own way. The emotional connection is strong with this story in so many ways.

Nate Pierce was the strength and the steady head in a lot of this book. He was a reporter. He was after the truth and seeking out details. He tried to not let emotions get to him, but he offered a whole new perspective and visual then what Meg and Sylvie and their father had. He brought a balance to the story. He brought a unique look of the outsider, who wasn't affected by the fire personally, but it affected him through others.

There is so much growth and depth in these characters. The background for this book is one that can be dark and depressing, but Jocelyn Green is able to write in and bring this story to one of hope.

I'm so glad that this is the first book in this saga, I enjoyed getting to know the Townsend family and I wasn't ready to say good-by.

This was just a stunning book in so many way.

My Thoughts:
Laura Frantz is one of those authors for me, that once I find out she has a book coming out, it's a count down till I can get my hands on it to devour it.

An Uncommon Woman was a book that was worth the wait! Goodness. The story, the characters, the history, the sweet romance, they all paired so well. The story flowed and when it ended, I was sad! I was not read to leave this world that Tessa and Clay lived in. It was so rich and vibrant. You could see this story playing out as you read it.

Tessa is such a unique character. She has grown up in house bustling with brothers. She helps her mom, she helps with the families trade of running the ferry, she also helps in protecting her family from attacks. She is a true frontier woman.She also is a woman who possess a wise knowledge from living where she has and one who knows to think in a very trying situation. Reading her story was so interesting.

Clay Tygart, goodness, this man has such a wide background that contradicts its self, but he is a man makes it work. They offer strengths to his job, which is is immensely proud of and does to the best of his ability. He is a warrior and a gentleman.

When Clay and Tessa are put together, they story just ignites!

And what brings Clay and Tessa together is such an interesting part. Keturah, who was Tessa's girlhood friend. She was taken to be raised with a Lenape and had forgotten the world she came from. Clay was the bridge between the two worlds for her and allowed Tessa to connect again. Keturah, is also not who she first appears to be. As her story unfolds and mixes with Tessa and Clay's it expanded the world to a whole new level. It made me think about how different, but similar Keturah and Tessa are and what kind of imprint they leave on the people around them.

The research for this story was just phenomenal. Reading this story made me so interested in finding out more on these tribes that were mentioned. This story really piqued my interest in the history of this time.

I downloaded this story as well from Audible. I have come to love the flexibility that audio books bring. I didn't have to put down this book. I could multi task. There was no way to put down An Uncommon Woman, it kept me immersed. The narrator, Aimee Lilly has such a lyrical voice that allowed the story to just flow.

This was such a fabulous story. It is one I could re-read over and over again.

My Thoughts:
When you want a rich historical background and fictional characters that are very lifelike that can blend into the history they are placed into seamlessly, Elizabeth Camden is the author for you! I have thoroughly enjoyed her books since I discovered her writings with Against the Tide. She knows how to write a swoon worth hero!

Gray Delacroix is a man who who has dealt with many hard blows in his life. He was a young child during the Civil War. He watched as his father had everything taken from him. He stood by his father and then stepped in for his father as they tried to rebuild their family business. As the business flourished, he traveled overseas and in doing that contracted illnesses that racked his body. Now that his father and step-mom have both passed on, took his place as head of his family, watching over his siblings like a second father. But now that they are adults, he is trying to find his place in this new dynamic. He is a hard working man, loyalty to his family, and an old world charm that captures your attention. While his younger brother is flashy and about the finer expensive things, he is calm and collected and appreciates what he has.

Annabelle Larkin is a long way from Kansas. She is one of the few women who have graduated from College at this time. She has packed her and sister up and have moved to the Washington D.C. She has a temp job at the Smithsonian...which is awesome! I would love to work there. The history that is there! Back on track. Annabelle has a job that many can't get and she desperately wants to stay. She has such a love for her family and a desire to take care of them.

When Gray and Annabelle have their meet-cute, it is fun. Annabelle is a very independent woman and she charges ahead into Gray's life. What plays out between then is interesting. They court and have a very sweet courtship. You feel like nothing can go wrong, but unfortunately, life tends to throw a wrench into plans.

The changes here in the story, I can understand. The feelings are real. The pain and anger, confusion are all there. The unknown. The hurt. Everything is played out and it makes you wonder how the story is going to close out, because, this is a hard one to see where it is going. I enjoyed that. I'm happy this wasn't a happy ending immediately. There is a lot of work to get to the end and it doesn't wrap up smoothly, because if it did, there wouldn't be a reason to continue this series. :-)

I honestly can't wait to see where the rest of this series goes. There is so much out there for Elizabeth to expand on and I am anxious to see it happen.

This book had so much to it. Romance, mystery, intrigue, history. This had everything I could ever want in a story.

This is a must read!

My Thoughts:
I have not hidden the fact that I'm a huge fan of Jocelyn Green's stories. Her books have such an amazing, immersive ability. She brings history to life, while weaving a fictional character into the the story flawlessly to make it all the more relatable.

I first read Wedded to War in 2013. I loved it! You can read my previous review here. This book was just released as an audiobook and goodness, I didn't think I could like the story anymore then I already did! The narrator, Laura Richcreek really made this book pop! Her narration style was smooth and very easy to listen to. She modified her voice for each character to where you knew who was speaking and it had an effortless flow.

Listening to the story allowed me to really take it all in. It also made some of the little details I overlooked when I originally read stand out more an enhanced the story. I was sad when the book came to a close. I was wanting more. I'm looking forward to continuing this series with book 2, Widow of Gettysburg. It was one of my favorites!

My Thoughts:
Katherine Reay is one of my favorite contemporary writers. I was first introduced to to her in her debut, Dear Mr. Knightley....it was fabulous! I then kept reading her lovelies and was just hooked with Lizzy & Jane. All of her stories focus on people who are so real, you can either relate to them personally, or you know someone like that person. There are broken people in need of healing, there are people who want to help, but don't know how, and other who offer their support anyway they can. They are touching stories that really grab a hold and don't let you go. They bring you in.

The Printed Letter Bookshop is no different. There is sadness in the loss of a loved one, but there is also hope. Like real life, what we have dreamed for ourselves, may not be the best thing for us. That comes through in The Printed Letter Bookshop.

This story follows three very different women, who all have 2 things in common; Maddie and the Bookshop. Each of these women fight a personal battle, whether it is with the memories of divorce, a distant family, or the loss of a coveted job.

There is a lot of hopeless felt in these women, but there is joy found, after a while with each other. I could relate to these women so much in different ways. The writing just brought this story to life.

Janet was one who I felt like I bounded with. Her slurry attitude was one I could connect with and understand. She had gone through a lot was trying to protect herself. Claire was a sweet woman, but with the move and new town and her kids getting older, she felt her family pulling away and alone. Madeline, named after her aunt, worked tirelessly for a partnership she wanted. She put so much aside for this. But, it was taken from her. She is a strong character. She knew what she wanted and wanted to fight for it. She had a backbone which was fabulous.

I will say, I held off on posting my review for little bit. I had to wait till the audio-book downloaded to listen to it as well. Audio has become a big part of my reading life. I have to say, the audio was fabulous with this story. The performer really brought these characters thoughts and voices forward and gave them a great distinction.  She also offered a a great performance, and allowed to show the emotion of the characters as well.

This was a story I thoroughly enjoyed and one I can see myself re-reading over and over again.
