Bookish Road Trip: Virgina, Stop 2

For 2 weeks this summer, I was on the road and it was amazing!We drove and drove and drove, but when we stopped, we got to see so many wonderful places. I thought it would be fun for the next few weeks to share about the places we visited and the books that matched up with the these places.

I'm cheating a little bit with this stop of the trip. We only stopped in Virginia to eat and fill the car up. However, we spent a lot of time driving through Virginia. We got to see a lot of this state and it's amazing amount of their rolling hills from one end to the other. Plus, there are some fantastic books set in Virginia that I just had to share about!

We had to pass through Virginia twice on this trip and as we drove, I was impressed with just how open it was. The farm lands just rolled on and the sky was just as blue as you can imagine. I could just picture this state over a hundred years ago with just a little change.

I can see why many authors have used Virginia as a background for their stories, it was just a gorgeous land.

The books that came to mind for this part of the trip were all historical fiction. One from Lynn Austin, All Things New, and two from Joanne Bischof, The Lady and the Lionheart and Though My Heart Is Torn.

I have read, Though My Heart is Torn, and it was an amazing story. I got to read a few years through the INSPY's. It was emotionally gripping and a story that has just stuck with me. After seeing Virginia first hand, the story really popped even more in my mind.

I haven't read the other two stories yet, but they are going to be read soon.

 Virginia was state that never seemed to end at times. It also was a state full of 18 wheelers. Oh, my word. So many big-rigs.

The rolling hills and farmlands was just relaxing. It was a peaceful drive through this state. I enjoyed it.

Seeing this state really helped open my eyes to the scenery of these locations, I haven't ever seen before. I honestly can't wait to go back through the state and hopefully see more and explore what is there to see, other what was beside the freeway.
