I was introduced to the 5 Love Languages for Kids by Gary Chapman a few years ago (ok, more than a few) when I was studying child development. From there I went on and read the adult version, and I have to say, it was interesting and very spot-on. It is helpful in knowing how to connect with people and understand what type of affirmations worked and didn't and understanding who had what traits.
I will say, I hadn't thought about introducing the Love Languages to children, nor did I know how to go about it. Because in all honesty, if I spoke with my little one, she would say gifts! She would feel so much love with as much stuff as you could buy her. It's the lovely age of give me, but I know, those gifts only offer her a short time of joy.
This book presented in such a fun and understanding way that helps kids understand, that not everyone is a hugger, or some people love to give to others to show their love, while others love to build others up with positive words. This story presented all of these fun observations as the story unfolded surrounded with the fun idea that the children in the book would be paired with their perfect pet at the end that matched their love language.
The Perfect Pet for Peyton was also a fun interactive book. So, while the parent could read to the child, the child could search out the different prompts from the book, I failed miserably at one, finding all the bugs, but it was a fun scavenger hunt for the kiddo. There were animals galore which is a plus in the kiddo's point of view, she wanted all the ones listed.
A Perfect Pet for Peyton was an easy to understand story that was fun to read along with.
