Discussion Thursday (couldn't wait till Tuesday)

June 20, 2013

This popped into my head a couple of days ago and I figured, I better ask it before I forget it, or loose the paper I wrote the question down on! (The joys of mommy brain.)

My question to you is....
How logical are you when you read?

I have read several different kinds of time travel books lately and I started to think, "What would happen if these people traveling back in time had colored their hair? Think about it, going back from what our present day is to 1700's- 1300's...hair color wasn't something that people did. Yes, there was henna in parts of the world, but it wasn't widely known. If you get stuck in the past and you colored your hair, after 3 months, people will suspect, that isn't your natural hair color. Would you be accused of witch craft? All because of your hair?

My mind goes everywhere at possibilities when I read books. My mind can run at full tilt for a while with possibilities and questions. Am I the only one? :-)

  1. This is a really interesting topic- I think I let myself sink into books that I really love more so than if I'm having problems with the book. I'll still pick up problems, either way, but if there are already things I don't like I really question things a lot more.

    1. I think my mind tends to wander more when it's a book I like...not when I'm actually reading it. :-) After I've set it down for a time or I'm done with it.

When a book makes an impact, I like to think about it and from there the thoughts take off.

You make a great point, when there is a book that isn't that great, it is easier to question more things and nit pick.

  2. I am so with you Kate! I often think "Okay if I were to go back I would bring my toothbrush for sure..but what problems would that cause?! People would be so confused." I get lost in the thoughts of How could I live back then...well I would have to shower, brush my hair and my teeth completely different!! I become so involved with thoughts of how I would possible coop with how things were done back then. Anyways...I hope this shows you that you are not alone!! Have a good day!

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone! :-) There are just so many things to think about in those types of books.
