Another new feature to the blog...YAY! I love discussing books and random things about books, so I'm dedicating Tuesday to discussions.
Today's Tuesday Discussion Question: How do you organize your books? By author, genre, color, whole bookshelves, boxes, or just wherever they fit...what do you like to do?
For me, I'm always rearranging. I run out of room quickly on my bookshelves so I'm always trying to figure out a way to make more room. I currently have the books set up by genre then by author. Historical fiction is set up by time period. Then I throw books that don't fit into a box under my bed...
I'd love hear back.

I'd love to someday have a bookshelf organized by color like your picture. It's soooo pretty.
ReplyDeleteI usually don't keep my books, except for the ones I know I'll read again like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. So typically, once I finish reading them, I post them on Paper Back Swap. If a couple of months go by and they haven't been mailed to another reader, I take them to Half Price Books.
For me, there's soooooo many books that I want to read, I doubt I'll re-read the ones I've already read, so I just send them off to a new person.
I forgot about swapping them or selling. The ones I know that I will never read again I take to Half Price. I'm waiting on the day when I can have a wall of book shelves. The color idea is pretty. I never would have thought about it before Pintrest!
DeleteI'm afraid, right now, in our home it's wherever they can fit. Then they get stacked on top, horizontally. I try to not make it look to cluttered, but hey...you do what you have to, right? :-)
ReplyDeleteExactly! Recently, I've had to revert to stacks as well. My bookshelves were overflowing and I needed a new box so, there was no where else to turn. Can books really look cluttered? I don't think so. :-)
DeleteOrganised chaos! Organised to the extent that my partner has one large bookcase, my daughter has another and I have one, then we have another shelf for communal books, another for non fiction and one for old and collectable books. On each of those shelves books tend to just get thrown in, in no particular order. Every now and again I decided to tidy things up a bit and organise titles, usually by genre or time period first then author, but they don't stay that way. I also stack them in, you do what you have to.
ReplyDeleteOrganized chaos is good. As the saying goes, everything has it's place! As long as you know where it is at, you're good! :-) It's definitely a fun problem to figure out places for books.
DeleteWhen it comes to organization its often size order- shelves for the large books (some won't fit on other shelves) , normal size together and some smaller ones together etc. Too many books have I!
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog by the way!
I have that problem too, some shelves don't want to cooperate. Thanks for the reply! It's fun to hear how everyone stacks their books. :-)
DeleteThank you for following back!
Hi Katie--thanks for joining my group on Book Blogs! I look forward to reading your future reviews. You can find my blog at http://loren-mathis.com/blog-3/.
ReplyDeleteLoren Mathis
Thank for the link! I followed you back. :-)
DeleteI now use a kindle, so I have given away 99% of my books (saved the favorites or signed copies) but I used to have my books grouped according to genre. I wasn't looking for neatness, I was looking for ease in finding a book :)
ReplyDeleteThe ease is defiantly important. :-) I hear good things about Kindles and Nooks, but I haven't brought myself to look into them.
DeleteJust stack them on top of each othere. Makes getting the one in the middle annoying, but I'm not a big re-reader :)
ReplyDeleteThat works too. I have a couple of series, if I don't stack them, I run out of room on my shelf. :-) It does make it annoying getting the middle and bottom ones out.
DeleteThanks for stopping by. Leave a word, leave a line, I would love to hear what you have to say.
